What does the number in LED Flashlights stand for?

I was looking online at LED flashlights and some say 9 LED, some say 32 LED, and some say 100 LED. What does the number stand for? Output intensity? I know it does not stand for the quantity of flashlights in that auction because they are all 1 item auctions. Thanks for your input!

1. That's the number of individual LED's that the flashlight contain. I have one with 7 LED's and one with 48 LED's and one with, I think 97 LED's. More LED's equals more light.
2. As the other person said, it means the amount of led's. However more leds does not mean that it will always be better. Most lights that use 3 or more leds use 5mm leds. 5mm are not very bright. There are far more powerful lights that use 1 led, and can kick out over 200 lumens easily.
