Why don't American police wear shoulder- or chest holsters?

Not only does a side holster look ridiculous, it makes it so much easier for an adversary to grab the police(wo)man's weapon. The Wild West and quick-draw stunts are gone so why do American police still use Wild West holsters?

1. I don't see how it looks ridiculous. Wow, i hope you aren't losing sleep over this..
2. Shoulder or chest holsters position your weapon across your body, which thrusts the grip of your pistol out in front, making it extremely easy for someone in front of you to reach out and grab it. A belt holster positions the grip of your gun along your body, and includes a thumb break that is nestled against your side. It's very hard to get to if you're not the one wearing it. I don't see how it looks ridiculous at all, or even the slightest bit "Wild West"...
